About MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive, state-of-the-art procedure that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. MRI uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed, high resolution pictures of organs, soft tissues and bone.

MRI does not use radiation and is a safe and valuable diagnostic tool—using this advanced technology, physicians are now able to see images of the body in greater detail and detect abnormalities earlier than ever before.

Head

MRI can look at the brain for tumors, an aneurysm, bleeding disorders, nerve injury and other problems, such as damage caused by a stroke. It can also find problems of the eyes, optic nerves, ears and auditory nerves.

Blood vessels

Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) uses MRI to produce pictures of major blood vessels throughout the body. MRA can be used to diagnose conditions affecting the arteries and veins, such as aneurysms, blockages and damaged blood vessels.

Chest

MRI can look at the heart and blood vessels. It can help physicians detect tumors and diagnose conditions such as coronary artery disease.

Spine

MRI can evaluate conditions such as spinal stenosis, disc bulges and spinal tumors.

Abdomen and pelvis

MRI can be used to find problems like tumors, fibroids and infections. The abdominal MRI can show problems of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys and bladder. The pelvis MRI can show problems of the uterus and ovaries, prostate and rectum.

Bones and joints

MRI can check for problems like arthritis, bone tumors, cartilage damage, joint problems, torn ligaments or tendons and infections.
